BBC Good Food Show Bursary Awards

I’m very excited to announce that I have been lucky enough to win a BBC Bursary Award. The award means I will be given a stand at the BBC Good Food Winter show (28th November and the 2nd December) for free. This is a huge recognition for the quality of my chocolates. I’m really excited about the opportunity and it’s given me a huge boost in confidence.

I will also be giving talks each day at the BBC Good Food Show, which I’m looking forward to. I enjoy giving talks and sampling chocolates with people and seeing what they think about my chocolates.

Here’s some information from the official press release

BBC Good Food Shows announce Bursary Award Winners

Having scoured the country for the last 6 months and after a lengthy and competitive application process culminating in a tasting sessions at the Good Food Test Kitchens, the winners of the BBC Good Food Show Bursary Awards have now been announced.

The Bursary Awards enable BBC Haymarket Exhibitions to reward passionate, dedicated and outstanding artisan producers. Winners are provided with a free of charge stand at one of the three Shows this autumn and given the opportunity to put their products in front of tens of thousands of food fans.

Gillian Carter, Editor Good Food Magazine, said…“I am so happy with this year’s pick of Bursary Award Winners. We tasted over 60 products altogether and these really stood out for their overall quality – and we think our visitors will love them! It’s great to be able to support outstanding fledgling producers and we can’t wait for the visitors to see the produce”

Scope Charity Event

Yesterday evening I attended the Scope Fashion Show at the Lord Hill Hotel in Shrewsbury, the event was really well attended. Lots of local businesses such as Thighs the Limit and Turtle Doves had mini stands selling their products. It was also lovely to see lots of twitter followers supporting the event.

I have never been to a charity fashion show before, but it lovely to see how the clothes from the shop could be transformed into stylish outfits.

It was also the first night I used my handmade bunting which I have been making in my spare time for the last few weeks. I have metres of the stuff, but hopefully I will be able to use it at all the shows and markets I do over the summer. I used a selection of fabrics, mostly Tilda as I like the designs and bright colours.

Happy Chocolate Week Everybody

If you didn’t know this week (10th-16th of October) is Chocolate Week; it’s a week to celebrate all things chocolate. Hopefully this week you’ll get the opportunity to try new chocolates whether it is bean to bar showing the true flavours of different beans or delicious
handmade truffles.

Importantly I hope everyone gets a chance to try chocolate which is single origin and ethically produced the difference in taste and quality is amazing.

To celebrate Chocolate Week I will be launching a new chocolate box called Shropshire Chocolates, all the chocolates are made by myself and are all available from Toot Sweets. The box will showcase local produce and flavours associated with Shropshire. The box will also showcase the work of a local artist called Norma Lamputt, who has specially designed the
front of the chocolate box. The box will be launched this Saturday at our shop in the Market Hall in Shrewsbury. Chocolates will be available to taste as well as information about each chocolate, and Norman Lamputt.

From tomorrow through to Saturday I will be sampling different chocolates from my wide range of Award Winning Chocolates and will be on hand to talk about all things Chocolate. I will also be running competitions for people based in Shropshire; these will be running on Facebook and Twitter. I will be giving away a prize everyday, which can be collected from our shop or in some cases sent in the post.

Making Easter a little more environmental…….

Every year we spend ages wrapping up our Easter Eggs to make sure that they travel safely through the post without getting damaged. This year we’re going to do things differently, after reading about a few other independent retails using Popcorn as a way to safely package orders we’ve decide to do the same. The popcorn will help to protect our eggs as well as being much lighter and environmentally friendly…..

Not only will this be really good for the environment as we will be cutting out the bubble wrap, but it’s a fab treat for you…or the birds in your garden! The Popcorn won’t be flavoured, so you can either shake some salt or sugar over your packaging or give some to the birds outside.

Truly Scrumptious Sweet Shop moves to a new location

Toot Sweets has moved to a new location in Shrewsbury Town Centre! The new shop based on Fish Street opened last week and so far has proved just as popular as the previous shop on Butcher Row. The new shop has a fitted kitchen which is ideal for the award winning artisan chocolates made by Julia at Toot Sweets.

“After wining 2 Great Taste Awards earlier this year we were inundated with orders and really need to find premises which would incorporate a kitchen so we could keep up with demand” says Julia Wenlock, the proprietor of Toot Sweets. Plans to serve luxury hot chocolates are well underway as well as offering some new services.

The new shop has a much brighter modern feel with a huge wall dedicated to the 300 jars of boiled sweets on offer and a larger display of Wedding Favours, Gift Boxes and Jars.

Toot Sweets is open Monday- Saturday 10am – 5pm, with regular shopping and tasting events held.
